This HDMI to DVI adapter screws onto the DVI socket of a monitor and gives it a female HDMI socket. The HDMI cable from your laptop, console or box plugs straight in, with nothing else to change in the setup.
An HDMI source, a DVI monitor
Many desktop monitors still in use only have a DVI input, while recent machines only output HDMI. Digital DVI and HDMI carry the same picture: the adapter has nothing to convert, it simply matches the pins. The supplier states it is bidirectional, so it also works the other way.
Specifications from the supplier’s sheet

- Source side: HDMI female
- Direction: bidirectional
- Stated resolution: 1080p
- Power: none
- Parcel weight: 32 g
And the sound?
A DVI link carries only the picture. A DVI monitor will not play the sound of a console or a computer connected over HDMI: plan a headphone output or speakers connected separately. The other models designed for this connection are in our DVI to HDMI adapter range.
